Best Foldable Keyboard for Travel in 2026 (We Tested 3)

We tested the ProtoArc XKM01, Seenda combo, and COVEVA retro keyboard to find the best portable typing setup for travel. Here is what we found after weeks of use.

ProtoArc XKM01 foldable keyboard and mouse on a desk

Why We Tested These Three

We work from coffee shops and co-working spaces a few times a week, and typing on a laptop keyboard for hours gets old. We wanted something portable that would not take up half our backpack. After reading through dozens of options, we narrowed it down to three: the ProtoArc XKM01 (foldable with built-in mouse), the Seenda wireless combo (compact but not foldable), and the COVEVA retro keyboard (a wildcard pick because it looks great).

We used each one as our daily keyboard for at least two weeks.

Our Pick: ProtoArc XKM01 Foldable Keyboard and Mouse

Price: ~$40 | Rating: 5/5

This is the one we keep in our bag. The XKM01 folds in half, comes with a small wireless mouse, and fits into a space about the size of a large wallet. The whole setup weighs almost nothing.

Typing Feel

The keys are low-profile and have decent travel for how thin the keyboard is. It does not feel like typing on a full mechanical board, but it is significantly better than a laptop keyboard. We typed full articles on this thing without discomfort. The key spacing is slightly tighter than a standard keyboard, so if you have large hands, expect a day or two of adjustment.

Portability

This is where the XKM01 wins and it is not close. Folded, it slips into a jacket pocket. The included mouse is tiny but functional. Together they weigh less than a phone. For travel, nothing else we tested comes close to this level of portability.

Battery and Connectivity

Bluetooth connection to our MacBook and iPad was quick and stable. We got about three weeks of daily use on a single charge, and it charges via USB-C. The mouse uses a AAA battery, which is a minor inconvenience, but it lasts months.

Downsides

The touchpad on the keyboard itself is small and not great for precision work. That is why the included mouse matters. Also, the hinge in the middle means there is a slight gap between the two halves that you can feel if you rest your palms across it. Neither of these is a deal-breaker, but worth knowing.

Runner Up: Seenda Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo

Price: ~$26 | Rating: 4/5

The Seenda combo is a solid full-size wireless keyboard with a matching mouse. If you do not need it to fold and you have room in your bag, it is a great option for the price.

Typing Feel

The typing experience is actually very good. Full-size key spacing, quiet keys, and a comfortable low-profile layout. For pure typing comfort, it edges out the ProtoArc.

Portability

This is where it falls short for travel. It is a full-size keyboard. You can fit it in a backpack, but it takes up real space. Fine for a permanent desk setup or occasional travel, but not something you would toss in a day bag.

Battery and Connectivity

Uses a single USB receiver for both keyboard and mouse, which is convenient. Runs on AA and AAA batteries respectively. We got months of use before needing to swap them.

Downsides

Not foldable, so portability is limited. The mouse is basic and feels cheap compared to the rest of the package. If you already have a mouse you like, that is fine.

The Wildcard: COVEVA Retro Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Price: ~$40 | Rating: 3/5

We tested this one because it looks amazing. The round typewriter-style keys and retro design get compliments every time. But looks are not everything.

Typing Feel

The round keycaps take getting used to. Your fingers tend to slide off the edges during fast typing, and the key travel is shallow despite the chunky appearance. After two weeks, we got faster on it, but never as fast as on the other two. It is fine for casual typing and emails. For long writing sessions, we reached for something else.

Portability

It is not foldable and it is about the same size as the Seenda. Not a travel keyboard.

Build Quality

The retro aesthetic is genuinely well done. The coffee colorway looks great on a desk. It feels solid and the matching mouse ties the look together. If your setup is mostly stationary and you care about aesthetics, this has appeal.

Downsides

Typing speed suffers with the round keys. It is a style-first keyboard, and that comes with trade-offs. Also, the Bluetooth can be slightly finicky when reconnecting after sleep.

Bottom Line

For travel, the ProtoArc XKM01 is our clear pick. Nothing else folds this small or weighs this little while still being genuinely usable. If you work from a fixed desk and want the best typing feel for the money, the Seenda is a great value. And if your desk setup is an expression of your personality and you type mostly short emails, the COVEVA looks fantastic doing it.

"Great portable keyboard and mouse combo This foldable keyboard and mouse combo has been a solid addition to my travel setup. The full-size layout with a real numpad makes a huge difference, and the typing experience feels surprisingly close to a regular desktop keyboard. The scissor switches are whisper-quiet with a satisfying low-profile feel, perfect for coffee shops, airports, or shared spaces. Note that this model does not have backlighting, so it is not ideal for working in dim lighting or at night. If you need that, ProtoArc has an upgraded backlit model (XK01 Plus)."

"Works well and looks nice Really like this keyboard and mouse combo. Easy to connect and switch between devices, and the size is perfect. The USB port works great, and the keyboard brightness is just right, not too bright at night. The keys are quiet and soft to type on, which I really like. The mouse works well but feels a bit too flat for my style. Only complaint."
