Best Robot Vacuum for Pet Hair in 2026: What Actually Works

After six months with the Roborock QV 35A in a house with shedding pets, here is what we learned about pet hair, tangles, and which features actually matter.

The Real Problem With Pet Hair and Robot Vacuums

Pet hair wrecks most robot vacuums. It wraps around the brush, clogs the suction, gets into the wheels. My old Roborock S5 lasted a long time but I was cutting hair off the brush every couple of weeks. That is the part nobody warns you about when you buy one.

I upgraded to the Roborock QV 35A about six months ago and the difference has been kind of ridiculous. Here is what actually matters if you have pets and you are thinking about getting a robot vacuum.

My Pick: Roborock QV 35A

Price: ~$800

The brush is the whole game

The QV 35A has a dual-rubber brush that pushes hair toward the suction instead of wrapping it. Sounds like a small thing but in six months I have not had to cut a single hair knot off the brush. On the S5 it was every two weeks, sometimes more.

If you only remember one thing, remember this. The brush is what makes or breaks a robot vacuum in a pet home.

Suction is actually strong enough

8000Pa is overkill for dust but that is not the point. Pet hair gets embedded in rugs and most vacuums just skim the surface. This one pulls it out. Our living room rug looks cleaner after the robot runs than it does after I use the upright.

You need the auto-empty dock

Without auto-empty you are dumping a tiny bin of pet hair every single day, which gets old fast. The dock on the QV 35A empties itself and I only touch it every few weeks. Without this feature a robot vacuum in a pet home is more work, not less.

Mopping actually helps with pet hair

Fine undercoat hair sticks to hardwood and suction alone leaves a film. The mops lift that, and the dock washes them so you are not touching a hairy pad. Did not think I needed the mopping feature but honestly I use it more than the vacuum at this point.

What is not great

  • $800 is a lot. If you only have one pet and hardwood floors, you probably do not need this much robot
  • Long hair can still wrap the side brush once in a while (the main brush stays clean)
  • The app is good but setup took me a bit to figure out

One more thing if you have cats

We also use a self-cleaning litter box and the combination of the two has cut daily pet cleanup to basically nothing. If you have cats, it is worth pairing them.

Who should buy this

  • You have one or more shedding pets
  • Mostly hardwood or low-pile carpet
  • You want to stop thinking about vacuuming

Skip it if your place is mostly high-pile carpet (no robot handles that well) or if you are not ready to spend over $500. Cheaper robots work, they just need more maintenance.

Bottom line

Tangle-free brush plus auto-empty dock is the combo that makes this thing work in a pet home. Six months in, running daily, and I have not had to deep-clean it once. If you have pets and you want a robot vacuum that does not constantly need you to fix it, this is the one.

4.5

"Huge upgrade from my old Roborock S5 I had a Roborock S5 for years and it was good for what it was, but man this QV 35A is on another level. The fact that it vacuums AND mops and then goes back to the dock and cleans itself is wild. I honestly do not do much anymore, it just runs and the house stays clean."

"Makes life so much easier! I really like this self-cleaning litter box. Setup was simple, and my cat adjusted quickly. It's very quiet when it runs, and the large waste bin and app make maintenance super easy. The odor control works well, but it also depends a lot on the type of litter you use."
