I almost bought the Learning Thermostat for twice the price. This one does what I actually wanted: set a schedule from my phone, turn the AC down when nobody is home, and let me bump it up from bed.

Install took 25 minutes with the app walking me through wire by wire. Our system had no C wire and it has run fine for nine months on the built-in battery trickle charge. Check the compatibility tool first, some heat-only systems need the power connector.

The first summer bill was about 12 percent lower than the same month the year before with the old dumb thermostat. Most of that is the away mode, which just works.

The display is a mirror finish and shows fingerprints. It does not learn your habits like the expensive one, you set the schedule yourself. I preferred that.

This is the one we’d buy again.
