The Mazda has wired CarPlay, which means plugging in every time and a cable across the console. This dongle stays plugged into the USB port, and the phone connects on its own about 15 seconds after the car starts.

Maps, music, and calls all work like the cable. There is a small delay compared to wired, maybe half a second when you tap, which you stop noticing after a day. Audio quality is the same.

Two honest notes: the phone does not charge while wireless, so a long drive still needs a cable or a wireless pad. And about once a month it does not connect and I unplug it and plug it back in. Not a dealbreaker, but not perfect.

For 40 dollars it made a 2018 car feel current.
