Churros were a Sunday morning thing growing up, and I never made them at home because the piping bag method is a mess and the dough is stiff. This is basically a cookie press with a star tip and a handle that gives you leverage. Load the dough, squeeze, cut with scissors over the oil.
The included recipe is fine, the classic water, butter, flour, egg dough. The ridges come out clean, which is what makes them crisp. The filling needle lets you inject dulce de leche after they cool, which is the part the kids fight over.
It is plastic. It works, but you have to let the dough cool a bit or it gets too soft and squirts. Clean it right away or the dough sets in the tube.
Not an everyday tool. For a once a month treat it earns its drawer space.
