This was the big purchase for the spring trips and it is the best travel bag I have owned. It opens flat like a suitcase, so packing cubes drop in and you can see everything. The padded wings zip over the contents and squeeze the whole thing down.
The straps and hip belt tuck away behind a panel, so it goes into an overhead bin as a clean bag with nothing dangling, then comes back out as a comfortable backpack for the walk from the train. That transition is the whole reason to buy it.
Thirty liters is five days for me with the BAGAIL compression cubes. It fits under the seat on most planes if it is not stuffed. The laptop sleeve takes a 16 inch.
It is not cheap and it is not light when empty. But Osprey will repair it for life, and after eight flights it looks new.
This is the one we’d buy again.
