I got tired of plastic boards that were scarred and stained after six months. Steel does not hold onion smell, does not stain from beets, and goes in the dishwasher on the sanitize cycle. It is what I use for raw chicken now, every time.
The lip on the front edge hooks over the counter, so it does not slide when you knead. That makes it excellent for pizza dough and tortillas, and it is big enough to roll out a full batch.
The honest downside: knives are louder on steel and it is not kind to a very fine edge. I still use wood for daily vegetable prep and save this for meat, dough, and anything that stains. Also, it is a big flat sheet of metal, so it needs a spot to lean.
For the money it solved two problems at once, sanitation and dough.
