We have a cat, a dog, and a kitchen with no range hood. This is new, about two weeks in, so treat this as a first report. Before it, the air quality reading on the old Clorox purifier lived in the red every evening. This one sits in the open living room and kitchen, and in auto mode it ramps up when we cook and drops back to a whisper 20 minutes later.

It is big. About the size of a small trash can. It is also genuinely quiet on low, quieter than the fridge. On high you hear it, but you only need high when something is burning.

The app is useful for one thing: seeing the PM2.5 number drop after you start cooking. The sensor is honest. Sleep mode turns off the display and it disappears.

Filters run about 50 dollars and Levoit says six to eight months. We will update this when the first one is done. So far, worth every cent for a house with animals and allergies.

This is the one we’d buy again.
